Over the past 14 years our organization have been raising money for Shinerama; Canada’s largest post-secondary fundraiser in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada (CFC). Cystic Fibrosis is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adult, and currently, there is no cure. It is estimated that one in every 3,600 children born in Canada is diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis.
This year, the Science Student Association has set a goal to raise $20 000 in support of Cystic Fibrosis research and care. This care is given through a multidisciplinary approach that optimizes the care delivered – regular interaction with healthcare professionals; composed of physicians, nurse, dietitian, physiotherapist, and social worker, at clinic visits once every three months. The donation we receive will provide support to accredited Canadian CF clinics through its Clinic Incentive grant program. These grants help ensure the CF clinic personnel are available to the patients.
Furthermore, the grant also helps to ensure clinic personnel have continual professional development through various trainings and conferences, so they continually upgrade their knowledge and skills, to remain up to date on advancements in research and care.
