Committees 2022-2023

The SSA holds standing committees that work on projects throughout the year. During the summer, only executives hold seats on committees and are elected by vote during the first meeting. Once the General Council is elected, the seats are reset and the committee members are re-elected, with the exception being the chair. Click the button below to view the current members of each committee and what they work on.

Executive Team 2023-2024

President

Name: Christina Bi

Year and Program: 5th year Biochemistry

Role: My role as President is to act as the main liaison between the students and the Faculty of Science, as well as between Sciences and other federated bodies of the UOSU. I oversee projects that the executives initiate, serve as the chairperson at SSA meetings, and ensure the smooth functioning of council members.

Fun Fact: I can type at a speed of 140 words per minute!

Vice-President Finances

Name: Anumita Chatterjee

Year and Program: 3rd year Biomedical Science

Role: My role as Vice-President of Finances is to oversee the financial operations of the Science Students' Association. I update the budget, write cheques and ensure that the SSA is transparent in all its financial operations.

Fun Fact: I love haunted houses but hate horror movies.

Role: The overall goal of my position is to plan events for science students during the year! The major events for which I am responsible are 101 Week, the Science Ball and Gradball.

Year and Program: 5th Year, Biotechnology

Role: I am responsible for the maintenance of the lockers, the management of SSA spaces, and ensure the smooth functioning of its systems. I also oversee the creation and execution of all SSA services, and serve as the chair of the Services committee.

Name: Victor Boddy

Year and Program: 3rd Year, Biotechnology

Role: I work with other faculties and universities across Ontario to facilitate a good relationship between them and the SSA, as well as with all SSA registered clubs. I also serve as the main liaison between the SSA and the Board of Administrators (BOA) of the UOSU.

Role: As VP Academic, my role is to organize academic related events such as the Wine and Cheese, award the SSA scholarships, sit on the Academic Fraud committee, and do my best to help with any academic issues that students might face.

Year and Program: 2nd year Biomedical Sciences

Role: I'm in charge of all the philanthropic initiatives throughout the year. In the summer, I focus on our Shinerama campaign, culminating with Shine Day during 101 week. If you have any ideas or suggestions that you'd like to see in 2022-2023, send me an email, I'd love to talk with you!

Name: Neeharika Boni Bangari

Year and Program: 3rd year Biomedical Sciences

Role: I create all logos, designs, posters, and promotional materials for the SSA and work hand in hand with the Social Media Manager to maintain the SSA's social media outlets. I'm also in charge of chairing the Promotions committee in order to improve the SSA aesthetic.

Name: Yassine Marhoum

Pronouns: He/Him

Year and Program: 3rd year, Biomedical Science

Role: I translate many things from English to French for the SSA such as website information, emails, Facebook posts and meeting minutes. I am also in charge of reinforcing bilingualism throughout the SSA which includes making the SSA a more welcoming environment for French students.

Fun Fact: When I was a kid, I almost drowned in a pool. If it weren't for my dad being there and noticing just in time to save me.

Logistics Coordinator

Role: I oversee the acquisition, organization and transportation of all equipment and materials necessary for SSA functions. I am responsible for the association's distribution of merchandise, venue and room bookings, food and clothing orders, and coordinates with the association council to ensure the success of all SSA events.

Role: The Senator brings the perspective of an undergraduate Faculty of Science student to meetings of the University of Ottawa Senate, which is responsible for creating/updating all academic rules & regulations, program & admission requirements, and conferring degrees at the U of O.
